Background of the Study
Workplace ethics refers to the moral principles that guide employees' behavior in the workplace. Ethical behavior in the workplace is crucial for creating an environment of trust, fairness, and accountability. It includes adherence to professional standards, honesty, integrity, respect, and fairness in dealing with colleagues, customers, and other stakeholders. Flour Mills of Nigeria (FMN) is one of Nigeria’s leading food manufacturing companies, and its operations in Kwara State are integral to its national presence. FMN has emphasized maintaining high ethical standards in its operations to promote productivity, enhance corporate reputation, and ensure long-term success.
Ethical behavior has been shown to have a significant impact on employee job performance. When employees perceive their workplace as ethical, they are more likely to be engaged, motivated, and productive (Adeyemi & Adebayo, 2023). Conversely, a lack of ethics in the workplace can lead to dissatisfaction, disengagement, and decreased performance. In a highly competitive industry like food manufacturing, maintaining ethical practices is essential for motivating employees and ensuring operational efficiency.
However, the specific impact of workplace ethics on employee performance at FMN in Kwara State remains under-researched. This study seeks to investigate how workplace ethics influence employee job performance at FMN, particularly in terms of productivity, job satisfaction, and overall performance outcomes.
Statement of the Problem
Although FMN has a reputation for upholding high ethical standards, there is limited research on how workplace ethics directly affect employee performance at the company, particularly in Kwara State. Understanding the relationship between workplace ethics and job performance is crucial for improving employee engagement and enhancing productivity. This study aims to explore how workplace ethics impact employee performance at FMN.
